Curriculum for Excellence

Scottish Education is changing for your child to improve the learning, attainment and achievement of all young people and to prepare them with the skills for learning, work and life for now and in the future, based on the best existing practise. It will prepare all children to become:

Looking at the Curriculum differently

A wide range of planned experiences and activities which will be designed to achieve specific outcomes through the 8 curriculum areas challenge and enjoyment, active learning developing and demonstrating creativity scope to learn and develop in a variety of different ways with opportunities for personal choice through their school career links from one aspect of learning to another and with learning at home

It will be important for schools and parents/carers to work closely to help bridge the links between home and school.

Health & Wellbeing

Languages

Mathematics

Sciences

Social Studies

Expressive Arts

Technologies

Religious & Moral Education

Defining curriculum levels (to replace Levels A-F etc)

Curriculum levels for numeracy, literacy and health and wellbeing

  Level Stage

  Early Pre-school and P1

  First To the end of P4, but earlier for some children

  Second To the end of P7, but earlier for some children

  Third and FourthS1-S3, but earlier for some.

  The 4th level broadly equates to SCQF level 4.

  Senior Phase S4-S6

The new exam system will be introduced in 2014, so children currently in P6 will be the first to take the new qualifications.

3 in-service dates planned for schools to develop Curriculum for Excellence this session and next are: 18th May 09, 18th Aug 09, 17th Aug 2010
