CARS QUESTIONAIRE JANUARY 2008
Do you think children should be safe when travelling to school? 100% YES
Do you think people should park on double yellow lines around the school? 100% NO
Do you think people should drive over kerbs around the school? 100% NO
Do you think that inappropriate parking, resulting in congestion is acceptable? 100% NO
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE PARKING/ROAD SITUATION?
The following are comments copied as written from the questionnaire:
Dangerous
No respect for the children
No respect from the residents and other drivers, particularly the parents from outlying areas. SG
Each parent appears to be interested in there own child, so it seems that anything goes!! Everyone is outraged when terrible things happen but have the drivers realised it could happen to anyone of them due to the lack of thought for the other children’s safety. LR
We each know what our responsibility is in regard to driving. I’m not sure of the best solution but whatever, I endeavour to do the right thing if it means change then I’m willing to consider that. MM
It’s chaotic. GB
I think there should be double yellow lines all along the road outside the school to allow clear visibility. EM
Persistent offenders continue to go unpunished. If they think they can get away with 5 minutes they will continue to do so. It is invariably the same cars. IR
Potentially dangerous due to discourteous/unlawful driving and thoughtless dangerous parking or abandoning of cars. ES
I feel fines should be imposed on drivers lacking safety measures regarding the children. Then maybe the seriousness of the traffic situation would be taken more to heart by the inconsideration of the guilty parties. FM
I am authorised to drive into the school car park to pick up my child, so I don’t have the same hassle trying to find a parking space as other parents. I do find it difficult to see when leaving at 3.15. I always enter via Carronvale Road as I was not aware of any other route but would be happy to change my route. KM
I think parents who drive their kids to school don’t care where thy park. The nearer the school the better. I have to dodge cars and range rovers 4x4 every day, morning and afternoon. I have a few near misses. CJ
You cannot walk on pavements due to parked cars. RM
A balance needs struck between the pupils safety and essential car users. Improved facilities for car users, traffic wardens for abuse of kerb/yellow lines etc. MM
The traffic calming measures are having a detrimental effect on traffic flow. They should be removed and replaced with proper calming road cushions. NR
Congested at times. Inconsiderate parking, therefore unsafe for children. UG
I rarely drive to school – but when I do I park well away from school and any congestion. I think for children’s safety it is better to be driven to school but this causes road safety issues at school, especially when walking alone/long distances. JS
I think those of us with cars should where possible park further away and be prepared to walk the remaining distance to school – good exercise for all involved. Could police/traffic wardens be involved more to try and avoid the situation/issues above. AD
The amount of cars parked around the school is awful and unsafe. Changes need to be made to keep children safe. JM
It is absolutely shocking. Some people think they can park anywhere they want. They double park, they park over peoples driveways, they park on pavements. MR
Concerned about children’s safety. CL
If you do not address the parking situation at Ladeside, there will be an accident. Double yellow lines opposite the school gates right the way up & down and parking or turning, dropping off places made available within the school grounds. KF
I personally do not drive, but I think that far too many people drive children to school, why not encourage more to walk? SH
Could be better but that many cars trying to park is difficult to sort out! More traffic wardens? AW
Mornings seem more congested. I walk to school but on occasion I must take the car. Parents at this time simply do not use the rules they would at other times. Weather seems to be a factor. Wet windy weather+more people dropping children. There should be NO 3 point turning. There should be SIGNS to direct parents how to get use the other routes. At present I think people do not know where to go. AS
It’s a shambles. Most parents should pick their children up from school that live within waling distance as this would lead to less congestion & less accidents. RG
I think that there should be a no parking zone for 20m either side of the school entrance. AP
Personally, I don’t like the fact that my daughter has to cross at the opening to the school car park when there are parents using this area to drop their kids off. YH
I am always amazed at the lack of common sense when it comes to parking. Yellow line, corners residents driveways and school entrances are deemed acceptable parking spaces in order to get as close to the school as possible. I do not now ever drive down Carronvale Road. DM
Awful, dangerous, thoughless. Bad road markings DS
You should park in the right place. ZH
Definitely think calming island is a nuisance. Lots of inconsiderate people turning or parking wherever they choose. Probably only answer is to have turning or parking area within school grounds as roads surrounding Ladeside really not suitable for heavy congestion of traffic. GI
Could be better, have the council/school ever considered using part of the rear school grounds for parking? LM
Unacceptable. Children who walk to school at high risk of accidents. Traffic speed a concern in surrounding roads, not just Carronvale Rd. HD
I don’t really see the parking/road situation at school times as my children walk to school on their own. SS
I think it should be better. No cars allowed to park across from entrance to school gates. KD
Think very difficult to park anywhere near the school not just outside it. When raining; children dropped off & parents don’t wait as much which alleviates some congestion. Think drop off bay where children could use crossing patrol. RW
My problem is that since the introduction of the traffic calming solutions to Carronvale Rd, the problem is now split between 1) Carronvale Rd & 2) S Broomage Av/Taylors Rd. S Broomage/Taylors Rd used to be a very quiet & safe way for my children to go to school but is now heavily congested with cars parked on both sides of the road on a corner & with additional problems of cars reversing onto pavements, doing 3 point turns on the corner & reduced visability for children trying to cross. As mentioned in the previous questionnaire we do not solve the problem, merely moved it to another location. Why do so many children need to be dropped right at the school gates? Could they not walk from the main street? MC
I am well aware of other rtes to the school. At 9am ish & 3.15pm the area at the South Broomage Av at the lane is also very congested, resulting in dangers for children who have to go home via this route, especially at the driveway to 87A,B,C&D which many cars use to reverse into a turn. There is no traffic crossing person here to aid or supervise children. The extra double yellow lines etc at Carronvale Rd have meant that many more cars are picking up/dropping off children at South Broomage Av, making it a real danger to children going to & from School using this route. This problem is especially worse in bad weather, when visability is much worse too – as well as more traffic would the answer be to encourage people to park further from the school & walk so there would be far fewer cars in these area?
